The NH44 blockade, a result of the ongoing farmers' protest, has significantly impacted transportation & general public in North India.
The article advocates for a shift in Goverment focus - one that prioritizes finding solutions to the protesting farmer's issues/problems, rather than creating widespread problems for general public and highway commuters..
The Haryana government's decision to block National Highway 44 at three critical points, namely Shambhu border, Ambala, and Shahbad, has raised significant concerns. The blockade was implemented to prevent farmers from Punjab from reaching Delhi to protest the government's neglect of their demands. However, this action has had adverse effects on the general public, with thousands of vehicles and hundreds of thousands of people who depend on NH44 for travel between Jammu, Punjab, Himachal, Chandigarh, and Delhi being severely inconvenienced. As a result, commuters are being forced to navigate through narrow village roads, leading to massive traffic jams.
Sadly, there has been little assistance from the authorities in managing these traffic situations. Furthermore, both villagers and animals are being affected by the increased traffic passing through their communities. Apart from the significant time delays caused by these roadblocks, there is also a considerable waste of fuel due to the prolonged traffic congestion.
The government's decision to prevent farmers from reaching Delhi is especially puzzling since the villagers are still allowed to use the same roads. This discrepancy raises questions about the government's priorities. Instead of focusing on actions that cause widespread inconvenience, the government should prioritize addressing the farmers' issues and demands.
As someone who recently traveled from Noida to Ludhiana using NH44, I experienced firsthand the difficulties caused by the roadblock. What usually takes five hours took me eight hours, leading to considerable discomfort and inconvenience. This image shows the diverted road I had to take due to the blockade. It is evident that the current situation is untenable and requires immediate attention from the authorities.
